b'Lady Helen - an electric launchLOA 25ft. Beam 6ft 1ins. Draft 1ft 7ins.Designed by Andrew Wolstenholme. Built in 2001 by Henwood & Dean Boatbuilders.Carvel Mahogany on Oak. Mahogany deck and fit-out with Douglas Fir floor.Andrew and I developed this design with the idea of moving the style of the Thames launch on a bit! While it is simple to replicate existing designs it is sometimes more interesting to move ahead with the genre. The characteristics and purpose of a Thames launch are primarily to provide a very comfortable and sociable experience on the river. The passengers need to feel at ease and be able to enjoy the pleasure of being smoothly transported by a beautiful handmade boat through the wonderful Thames landscape. Without a commission for the concept, the first draft developed only as far as an outline design for a 21ft launch and a little half model. A year later, with the involvement of an enthusiastic client, the design had grown to 25ft LOA and the build was underway. The construction is traditional: Mahogany carvel planking fastened to steam bent English Oak ribs with copper rivets. The structure is exposed to show the progression 48'
